Ubisoft is taking bold steps to revive its tarnished reputation and financial standing by officially launching preparations for Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. This new multiplayer title is centered entirely around the integration of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Developed in collaboration with the Arbitrum blockchain and the web3 gaming development platform Sequence, Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. arrives late to the Web3 scene, a timing that some may consider embarrassing.

In this multiplayer experience players will engage in a cyberpunk dystopia known as Eden which serves as a specific metaverse for Ubisoft’s various intellectual properties. According to a blog post from Sequence released in August, the game allows players to become citizens of Eden. Their objective is to ascend through the ranks and influence the narrative of the game. It is emphasized that players will not be acting alone; the community within Eden will collaborate to overcome challenges across various platforms within and beyond the Ubisoft ecosystem to improve their citizen score and gain more influence in the game's narrative.

Ubisoft Labs Vice President Nicolas Pouard elaborated on the vision for Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. by stating that the aim is to create a unique collaborative experience facilitated by blockchain technology. He highlighted that Ubisoft chose Sequence due to its powerful web3 stack to provide essential blockchain tools for the game. With Arbitrum’s advanced blockchain infrastructure and Sequence’s comprehensive web3 stack, Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. is positioned to become a groundbreaking player-driven initiative.

“This environment allows players to not only enjoy the game but also actively contribute to its lore and evolution,” Pouard explained. “The blockchain features available on Arbitrum empower us to give the community a genuine voice in shaping the narrative gameplay and even additional experiences. This encourages transparency and shared creativity paving the way for a truly collaborative future for Captain Laserhawk.”

On October 4th Ubisoft announced a partnership with Arbitrum to release a limited edition series of 10,000 NFTs known as Niji Warrior ID Cards. These NFTs serve as a gateway to the immersive gaming experience of Captain Laserhawk and provide players with access to the game's governance model user-generated content features and reward systems. Each Niji Warrior ID Card will feature dynamic metadata that evolves based on player activity and skill. This activity is quantified through an Eden Score; the higher the score the more perks and governance influence the player attains.

Owning a Niji Warrior ID Card NFT also allows players to enjoy early access to the game and membership in an exclusive community that connects them directly with Ubisoft developers. According to the official website of the title membership includes several perks such as claiming exclusive merchandise related to well-known Ubisoft intellectual properties early access to the game invitations to exclusive real-world Ubisoft events and governance voting power on the future direction of the G.A.M.E. Players will also have opportunities for beta testing new games features and behind-the-scenes content.

Ubisoft Web3 Executive Producer Didier Genevois expressed enthusiasm about the integration of Web3 technologies stating that the goal is to enhance player engagement and ownership in gaming through Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. He emphasized that the integration of Web3 empowers the community to not only play the game but also shape its future creating a collaborative ecosystem where player decisions and creations directly impact the game's evolution.

While specifics on gameplay remain sparse the title is described as a competitive online top-down multiplayer shooter game, marking a significant addition to the Web3 gaming landscape as Ubisoft attempts to revitalize its image through innovative technologies.
