India's central bank has approved the appointment of Pranav Chawda as the new CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co.'s local banking unit for a three-year term. Chawda, who has been leading the commercial banking division, will now take on an expanded role as head of the corporate banking entity. This appointment comes after the previous CEO, Prabdev Singh, stepped down before the completion of his term.

Kaustubh Kulkarni, JPMorgan's Senior Country Officer for India and Vice Chairman for Asia Pacific, commented on Chawda’s promotion, stating that his extensive experience will be instrumental in driving the bank’s corporate banking division forward. Kulkarni also emphasized the significant opportunities the Indian market offers, which Chawda is expected to explore and capitalize on in his new role.

Pranav Chawda is a seasoned chartered accountant who began his career in 1995 as an assistant manager at Deloitte. He later moved into the banking sector, taking on various roles including Managing Director of Institutional Banking at DBS Bank India before joining JPMorgan in 2019. JPMorgan's roots in India date back to 1945 when its predecessor, Chase National Bank, opened a representative office in Mumbai. Currently, the global financial giant has offices in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, further strengthening its presence in the Indian market.
