Maharashtra Reschedules Eid-e-Milad Holiday to Avoid Clash; RBI Adjusts Bank Holiday

In a significant update affecting the holiday calendar, the Maharashtra government has rescheduled the Eid-e-Milad public holiday originally planned for September 16, 2024. The holiday will now be observed on September 18, 2024, to prevent overlap with Ganesh Chaturthi immersion activities, which are also taking place on September 16.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has responded to this change by adjusting its own holiday schedule. In a recent announcement, the RBI confirmed the cancellation of the previously declared bank holiday on September 16. Instead, the central bank has aligned its holiday observance with the new date set by the Maharashtra government.

“The Government of Maharashtra has designated September 18, 2024, as a public holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881,” stated the RBI in a press release. Consequently, the RBI's holiday previously set for September 16 has been officially revoked.

This adjustment aims to mitigate any potential disruption in banking services that could arise from the simultaneous observance of both Eid-e-Milad and Ganesh Chaturthi. The revised date will ensure that public and banking activities proceed smoothly without overlap.
