FSIB Recommends Ashok Chandra for Role of Punjab National Bank Managing Director
The Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB), which oversees the selection of top executives for state-owned banks, has recommended Ashok Chandra as the new Managing Director (MD) and CEO of Punjab National Bank (PNB). Chandra, currently serving as Executive Director at Canara Bank, is expected to assume the role after Atul Kumar Goel retires in December.
FSIB’s recommendation follows an extensive interview process involving 16 candidates for the MD & CEO position at PNB. In a statement, FSIB highlighted that the selection was based on each candidate's performance, experience, and relevant evaluation parameters. The final appointment will be subject to the approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
FSIB’s panel includes former DoPT Secretary Bhanu Pratap Sharma as its chair, along with Animesh Chauhan, former MD of Oriental Bank of Commerce; Deepak Singhal, former RBI Executive Director; and Shailendra Bhandari, ex-MD of ING Vysya Bank. Chandra brings a wealth of experience from his career in banking, which began in 1991 at Corporation Bank. He holds a Master’s degree in Economics and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers.
