In another incident, 78-year-old lawyer Manohar Singh Vohra was misled by a caller claiming to be from the Mumbai police, who informed him of fraudulent activities linked to his Aadhaar card and pressured him to transfer Rs 9 lakh to avoid an arrest warrant. Surge in Cyber Fraud Cases Reported in District
Authorities are investigating three new cyber fraud incidents that have emerged in the district, raising concerns among residents. In the first case, Mohit Kumar, a 28-year-old chemist shop owner from Sector 27, reported a suspicious call he received on September 25. The caller, claiming to represent the credit card department, instructed him to press a number to block his card due to alleged suspicious transactions.
In another incident, 78-year-old lawyer Manohar Singh Vohra from Sector 6 received a call on September 30 from an individual purporting to be from the Mumbai police. The caller informed Vohra that a bank account had been opened in his name using his Aadhaar card, resulting in fraudulent transactions totaling approximately Rs 2 crore. The caller threatened that an arrest warrant had been issued against Vohra’s account and urged him to transfer Rs 9 lakh via RTGS, promising the funds would be returned after verification. Vohra complied and transferred the money to the fraudsters.
These incidents highlight the growing prevalence of cyber fraud schemes targeting unsuspecting individuals. Local authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious communications immediately to prevent further victimization.
