R.K. Laxman’s ‘Common Man’ Joins Nationwide Campaign to Raise Awareness on Digital Payment Fraud
Mumbai: The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), in partnership with The Times of India, has launched a nationwide campaign aimed at educating the public about the risks of digital payment fraud. The campaign features the beloved cartoon character 'Common Man,' created by R.K. Laxman, as the symbol of awareness and guidance for Indians navigating the complexities of digital transactions.
In this initiative, the Common Man represents everyday Indians, many of whom are still adapting to the shift towards digital payments. With his trademark wit and simplicity, the character will provide practical advice to help people avoid scams such as phishing, OTP fraud, and fake apps, while encouraging safe practices in transactions made through UPI and other platforms.
NPCI, which regulates and provides digital payment services such as UPI, Bharat Bill Pay, RuPay Card, and FASTag, sees this campaign as essential in an era where digital transactions are becoming ubiquitous. "We are thrilled to partner with The Times of India and their iconic Common Man character in raising awareness about digital payment safety," said Dilip Asbe, Managing Director and CEO of NPCI. "As more people rely on digital payments, it is crucial for them to be informed about potential risks and best practices for secure transactions."
The campaign will focus on educating users from all demographics on how to recognize and prevent various types of digital fraud, helping them to stay secure while embracing digital financial tools.
