India Entering Digital Renaissance, Responsible AI Crucial: IBM India MD

India is on the verge of a "Digital Renaissance," with artificial intelligence (AI) playing a key role in driving growth, according to IBM India & South Asia Managing Director Sandip Patel. Speaking at IBM Think 2024, Patel emphasized the country's leadership in AI adoption and called for a focus on developing AI that is practical, responsible, and deeply embedded in daily operations.

"India is experiencing what I like to call the 'Naya Daur' of digital Bharat," Patel said, highlighting IBM's commitment to innovation in India and beyond through its hybrid cloud and AI strategies. According to Patel, AI is not just a trend but a powerful catalyst for growth. He referenced an IBM survey indicating that 59% of Indian enterprises are deploying AI, the highest rate globally.

However, Patel warned that scaling AI from pilot projects to broader applications poses challenges. He urged companies to ensure their AI systems are practical, responsible, and seamlessly integrated into operations, dubbing this the "PRE test" for AI. He stressed that responsible AI—marked by transparency, privacy, and fairness—would be key to realizing the vision of a developed "Viksit Bharat."
