The Finance Ministry has requested expenditure proposals for supplementary grants for 2024-25, with submissions due by early November. This initiative aims to streamline budget processes ahead of the winter session of Parliament.
Finance Ministry Requests Expenditure Proposals for Supplementary Grants
In preparation for the upcoming winter session of Parliament, the Finance Ministry has called for expenditure proposals from various ministries and departments for the first batch of supplementary demands for grants for the fiscal year 2024-25. An office memorandum issued on October 21 outlines the timeline for submissions, with the winter session expected to commence in late November.
The pre-Budget meetings aimed at finalizing the Revised Estimate for 2024-25 and the Budget Estimate for 2025-26 are currently taking place and will conclude by November 11. Ministries that complete their meetings with the Finance Ministry by October 29 must submit their supplementary proposals by November 6, while others should submit within a week after their meetings or by November 15.
Eligible cases for supplementary demands include those involving advances from the Contingency Fund of India, payments due from court decrees, and instances where the Finance Ministry has advised moving forward with the supplementary demands during the winter session. The Finance Ministry emphasizes the importance of identifying savings within existing grants to avoid unnecessary supplementary demands and ensure efficient budget utilization.
The Budget for 2025-26 is anticipated to be presented on February 1, earlier than in previous years, allowing for a more timely allocation of funds to government departments.
